San Bernardino County’s allocation of $6,000,000 to SBCFPD to fund the purchase of 10 Type-1 engines supports the public safety needs of SBCFPD pursuant to Government Code section 26227 and serves the SBCFPD purposes of fire protection and emergency medical services operations identified in Health and Safety Code section 13862.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

SBCFPD is a community-based, all-hazard emergency services organization providing various services to more than 60 communities/cities under its jurisdiction.  SBCFPD operates a variety of vehicles and tools to accomplish its missions, many of them are unique with very specialized capabilities and functions.

The 10 Type-1 engines will be purchased to augment SBCFPD’s fleet and replace the older Type-1 engines that frequently go out of service and require significant labor and repair costs.  The older Type-1 engines will soon be put out of service as they will no longer meet South Coast Air Quality Management District regulations.  These new engines will ensure that SBCFPD is able to respond to the growing service demands within SBCFPD and the County.

Approval of the recommended actions will enable SBCFPD to proceed with the procurement and the purchases of the unbudgeted capital assets.

PROCUREMENT

The Type-1 engines will be purchased pursuant to a contract approved by the Purchasing Department with Sourcewell, based on the competitive procurement and participating contract issued by REV Group, Inc. (Contract No. 113021-RVG).
