BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Department operates and maintains two museums and five historic sites across San Bernardino county. The Department also operates Museum Stores, with revenue from store sales deposited into the Museum Enterprise Fund to support Museum operations and visitor services.
Approval of the recommended budget adjustments will allow the Department to transfer $50,000 from the available fund balance in the Museum Enterprise Fund to support public-facing improvements across Museum facilities, including interpretive signage, wayfinding, and exterior beautification. These improvements will enhance the presentation and accessibility of Museum facilities while supporting the Department’s preparation for American Alliance of Museums reaccreditation in 2027.
The transfer will reinvest revenue generated through Museum Store sales directly into the visitor experience and support the Department’s continued efforts to maintain professional museum standards, improve its facilities and exhibitions, and provide a high-quality experience for Museum visitors.
