Body

COUNTY AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER GOALS & OBJECTIVES

Improve County Government Operations.

Operate in a Fiscally-Responsible and Business-Like Manner.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The Fleet Management Department (Fleet) is an internal service fund, and its operational costs are financed through Board of Supervisors (Board) approved rates charged to customers. The proceeds raised by the sale of the above-described fixed assets will be returned to Fleet to assist in the purchase of equipment and vehicles in the future, as needed.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Fleet owns and maintains a number of vehicles and equipment pursuant to its mission of providing vehicles and services to other County departments. Vehicles are auctioned and replaced annually when they reach nine years of age and/or 100,000 miles to ensure the highest possible return at auction and to avoid major repairs or the vehicles becoming inoperable due to vehicle age. Fleet staff have determined that it is no longer economically beneficial for Fleet to continue to maintain and repair the surplus assets identified in Recommendation No. 1 based on the vehicle’s mileage and age.

County Policy No. 12-18 requires property with an estimated value of $10,000 or more to be declared surplus by the Board.  Upon Board approval, the vehicles will be sent to the County’s contracted auction vendors for disposition, coordinated through the Purchasing Department, Surplus Property Division in accordance with County Policy No. 12-18 and Standard Practice No. 12-18 SP1.

PROCUREMENT

Not applicable.
