BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Department of Public Works (Department) existing standard drawings have been in existence for several decades, with some dating back to 1965. Standard drawings are predefined drawing templates that contain standard notes and details which govern the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of any improvement to be located within the public rights-of-way.
On January 23, 2024 (Item No. 49) the Board of Supervisors (Board) approved updates to existing road standard drawings. To conform to current industry standards and requirements, the Department updated its existing standard drawings and provided new additional standard drawings in accordance with the American with Disabilities Act, Federal Highway Administration, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Caltrans Highway Design Manual, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System.
Standard Drawing No. 314 will establish the design criteria for typical street lighting projects to be used throughout the County. The new standard provides a consistent framework for designing and constructing street lighting that is responsive to local conditions while supporting safe, modern, and coordinated infrastructure within residential and commercial developments.
The updated and new standard drawings will be published on the Department’s website and made available for public access.
