RECOMMENDATION(S)

Recommendation

Authorize the San Bernardino County Library to accept a gift from the Hesperia Friends of the Library Group, in the amount of $21,789, to support library programming and technological updates program for the Hesperia Branch Library.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). A budget adjustment is not requested at this time but will be included in a future budget report and will be presented to the Board of Supervisors (Board) for approval.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Acceptance of the $21,789 gift from the Hesperia Friends of the Library Group will allow the County Library to purchase physical library materials, supplies for adult and youth library programs or the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) program, circulation incentives to promote reading, and technology updates for the Hesperia Branch Library (Hesperia Library) These materials will enhance the customer experience at the Hesperia Library.

 

The Hesperia Friends of the Library Group is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds to support programs, services and access to various resources at the Hesperia Library, including newspaper and magazine subscriptions, the DVD collection, and incentives for children to reach reading objectives. 

 

County Policy 06-01 and Standard Practice 06-01SP requires Board approval of gifts and donations having a value greater than $10,000.
