FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The estimated cost of $1,000 to install the appropriate signs, as well as minor administrative costs to update the Department of Public Works (Department) records, will be funded by Gas Tax revenue. Sufficient appropriation and revenue are included in the Department’s 2025-26 Road Operations budget (6650002000).
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Department received a request to investigate concerns about commercial vehicles parking along the west side of Fontana Avenue. In response, the Department conducted a traffic engineering investigation to assess the parking conditions on Fontana Avenue. During the Department’s evaluation, it was found that properties located along the west side of Fontana Avenue, between San Bernardino Avenue and Carob Avenue, are designated “Single Family Residential” by the County’s zoning classification, and that commercial vehicles are parked along Fontana Avenue.
Therefore, based on the findings, field observations, and traffic engineering investigation, the Department recommends a “No Parking” zone of commercial vehicles having a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating exceeding 10,000 pounds on the west side of Fontana Avenue, from San Bernardino Avenue approximately 0.53 miles to Carob Avenue, in accordance with County Code Section 52.0128(a), 52.0132(a), and 83.11.100(a)(1).
The proposed Resolution will also direct the Road Commissioner to perform such acts as are necessary to implement the Resolution, which includes posting signage pursuant to County Code 52.0128(a) and 52.0132(a), to assist in improving the safety of the motorists traveling along the roadway.
This item aligns with the County and the Chief Executive Officer’s goals and objectives to provide for the safety of the traveling public by restricting parking on this stretch of roadway.
