FINANCIAL IMPACT

Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost) as this Affiliation Agreement with Grand Canyon University (GCU) is non-financial in nature.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The recommended Affiliation Agreement will provide clinical onsite training for GCU nursing students at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC). As a teaching hospital, ARMC has a number of agreements with educational institutions to provide onsite training for students. Clinical training is necessary for students to obtain their degrees, licenses, and/or certifications.

The volume and diversity of ARMC patients provides a comprehensive educational opportunity to nursing students from GCU, which is a fully accredited educational institution. GCU and ARMC will mutually determine the number of students that will receive training. The Affiliation Agreement ensures the students receive specialty onsite training and experience from ARMC and gain vital skills needed in developing a competent workforce. As a teaching hospital, ARMC expects to attract students to the county area, increasing the potential pool of future healthcare providers.

On October 16, 2018 (Item No. 15), the Board of Supervisors approved Affiliation Agreement No. 18-783 with GCU for nursing students to obtain clinical experience at ARMC for the period of October 16, 2018, through October 15, 2023.

ARMC recommends approval of this Affiliation Agreement to provide clinical training and experience to GCU nursing students following expiration of the prior agreement, which will result in the students gaining vital skills needed to develop a competent workforce and attract future healthcare providers to the county.
