COUNTY AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER GOALS & OBJECTIVES

Provide for the Safety, Health and Social Service Needs of County Residents.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost) as the Affiliation Agreement with Stanbridge University is non-financial in nature.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Affiliation Agreement will allow Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) to provide clinical training to Stanbridge University (Stanbridge) physical, speech and occupational therapy students, who will assist in the delivery of care to ARMC patients. The clinical training is necessary for students to obtain their degrees, licenses, and/or certifications that will provide for the safety, health, and social service needs of County residents.

The volume and diversity of ARMC patients provide a comprehensive educational opportunity to students from Stanbridge, which is a fully accredited educational institution. The Affiliation Agreement ensures students receive specialty clinical training and experience from ARMC and gain vital skills needed in developing a competent workforce. As a teaching hospital, ARMC expects to attract students to the San Bernardino County area, increasing the potential pool of future healthcare providers.

On February 14, 2017 (Item No. 12), the Board of Supervisors approved non-financial Affiliation Agreement No. 17-89 with Stanbridge for its students to obtain clinical experience at ARMC for the period of March 27, 2017, through March 26, 2022.  Stanbridge has since requested a new Affiliation Agreement for its students to return to ARMC for this clinical experience.

ARMC recommends approval of this agreement allowing ARMC to provide clinical training to Stanbridge students who will receive specialty clinical training and experience from ARMC while gaining vital skills needed in developing a competent workforce.
