BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Amendment No. 1 to the Contract with Azusa Pacific University (APU) will allow the Preschool Services Department (PSD) to continue to host student interns from APU. Through the student internship program, PSD provides learning experiences that provide student interns with the skills they need to prosper in the twenty-first century economy, which aligns with the San Bernardino Countywide Vision2Succeed initiative.
PSD employs qualified professionals who will provide the needed tutelage and guidance to student interns participating in the Nursing Program, where the focus of study is on community health education and services. Interns will assist in providing hearing, vision, and hemoglobin screenings to PSD enrolled children. The interns will also provide parent education classes in areas such as chronic health conditions and reducing the spread of communicable diseases. PSD's population of approximately 2039 children ages 0 to 5 throughout the county will afford APU interns required field experience and internship hours while maximizing PSD’s available public resources.
On August 9, 2022 (Item No. 25), the Board of Supervisors approved the non-financial Contract with APU to allow PSD to provide training and field experience to interns enrolled in the nursing program at APU for the contract period of August 10, 2022, through July 31, 2025.
APU’s performance will be monitored by review of monthly reports to ensure compliance with the administrative and program requirements of the Contract. APU will cooperate with the County in the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of this Contract and comply with any, and all reporting requirements established by this Contract. The Contract may be terminated without cause by the County with 30 days written notice.
