BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On May 20, 2025 (Item No. 109), the ordinance designating the Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ) in the Local Responsibility Areas (LRA) of the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCFPD) was introduced and scheduled for final adoption on June 10, 2025. The recommendation before the Board of Directors today will adopt the ordinance on the Consent Calendar.
The proposed ordinance will designate the FHSZ classifications - moderate, high, and very high zones within SBCFPD’s jurisdiction. The FHSZ classifications provide a more precise assessment of the wildfire risks using modern climate data and advanced fire modeling. This information is important to SBCFPD who is responsible for wildfire protection in the LRA.
In accordance with Government Code section 50022 et seq., at the June 10, 2025, Board meeting, the Board may amend, adopt or reject the ordinance.
Lastly, within 30 days of adopting the ordinance designating FHSZ, SBCFPD shall submit a copy of the ordinance and a map depicting the adopted zones within the LRA to the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection pursuant to California Code of Regulations §1280.02.
