FINANCIAL IMPACT

Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost) as this Affiliation Agreement with Total Longterm Care Inc. DBA InnovAge California PACE - Inland Empire (InnovAge) is non-financial in nature.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Affiliation Agreement with InnovAge will enable Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) resident physicians to obtain specialized clinical training in geriatric psychiatry at InnovAge. The volume and patient mix at InnovAge will provide a suitable educational opportunity to the ARMC resident physicians. The accreditation bodies for medical residency programs have specific requirements as to the numbers and types of patients to whom a resident physician must provide care in order to complete the residency program and become eligible for board certification. In order to meet these requirements, it is customary for hospitals that operate residency programs to provide their residents with educational opportunities at other facilities to supplement those available at their sponsoring hospital.

As a teaching hospital, ARMC has a number of agreements with other hospitals to provide on-site clinical training for its residents. The Affiliation Agreement with InnovAge ensures that ARMC’s resident physicians will receive specialty training that will enable them to meet requirements for geriatric psychiatry and specialty board eligibility.

On July 10, 2018 (Item No. 10), the Board of Supervisors approved a non-financial Affiliation Agreement with InnovAge for ARMC resident physicians to obtain specialized clinical training at InnovAge for the period of July 10, 2018 through July 9, 2023.

ARMC recommends approval of this Affiliation Agreement to provide clinical training and experience to ARMC’s resident physicians, which will result in the provision of specialized medical care to County residents.
