RECOMMENDATION(S)
Recommendation
Acting as the governing body of the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District:
1. Approve the purchase of six Type 2 ambulances as unbudgeted fixed assets, and other equipment/supplies to outfit the vehicle, in an amount not to exceed $1,800,000, for support of emergency medical services operations.
2. Authorize the Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector to post the budget adjustments to the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District’s 2023-24 budget, as detailed in the Financial Impact section, for the purchases identified in Recommendation No. 1 (Four votes required).

FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of the recommended actions will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The total cost of $1,800,000 will be funded by the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCFPD) through use of available reserves.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
SBCFPD is a community-based, all hazard emergency services organization providing various services to more than 60 communities/cities under its jurisdiction. SBCFPD operates a variety of vehicles and tools to accomplish its missions, many of them are unique with very specialized capabilities and functions.
The six ambulances will be purchased to augment SBCFPD’s current fleet. They will be placed into service as needed to meet service demand. This will ensure that SBCFPD is able to respond to the growing service demands within SBCFPD and the County.
Approval of the recommended actions will enable SBCFPD to proceed with the procurement and the purchases of the unbudgeted fixed assets.
PROCUREMENT
The ambulances will be purchased pursuant to a contract approved by the Purchasing Department with Sourcewell, based on the competitive procurement and participating contract issued by REV Ambulance Group Orlando, Inc. (Contract No. 110921-RVO).
