Provide for the Safety, Health and Social Service Needs of County Residents.
Pursue County Goals and Objectives by Working with Other Agencies.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of additional Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). This agreement provides for reimbursement of costs associated with disposable non-surgical protective wear worn by medical residents at the rate of $48 per resident, per rotation, for an estimated 30 residents per year. The amount charged is the Sheriff/Coroner/Public Administrator’s (Department) standard fee amount for protective wear, which is included in the County’s Fee Ordinance, Section 16.0226(v)(9)(B). The annual revenue from this agreement based upon the current County Fee Ordinance is estimated at $1,440.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The existing affiliation agreement provides for the safety, health, and social service needs of the County’s residents by supporting Loma Linda University Medical Center’s (LLUMC) Pathology Residency Program and provides a clinical rotation at the Department’s Coroner Division facility.
On January 26, 2010 (Item No. 58), the Board of Supervisors (Board) approved Agreement No. 10-57 with LLUMC which permitted the Department to provide a two-week training rotation allowing the Pathology Residents of LLUMC to observe and assist with autopsies. On October 20, 2015 (Item No. 60), the Board approved Agreement No. 15-768, allowing for continued service for the period of November 1, 2015 through June 30, 2020, with the option to extend the term two additional one-year periods.
On May 19, 2020 (Item No. 89) the Board approved Amendment No. 1 to Agreement No. 15-768 to extend the term through June 30, 2021. The proposed Amendment will allow the Department to continue the rotational training for pathology residents through June 30, 2022, by exercising the final option to extend the term one additional year by mutual agreement of the Department and LLUMC. The agreement can be terminated for any reason with a 90-day written notice of termination.
