BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Department requests approval to purchase a Ford Explorer from County Fleet Management to transport inmates or uncooperative witnesses to criminal proceedings at the Superior Court. The Department’s Bureau of Investigation currently does not have a secure vehicle for transports. When there are rush requests for additional witnesses on cases, the Department must be able to quickly make arrangements for transportation. A readily available and secure vehicle will allow the Bureau of Investigation to efficiently handle the transport.
PROCUREMENT
The vehicle was already purchased by Fleet Management as part of their annual vehicle purchase process and in accordance with the County’s procurement procedures. County Policy 11-04 requires that unbudgeted fixed assets with a unit value of $10,000 or more be approved by the Board of Supervisors.
