BACKGROUND INFORMATION
A key component of Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s (ARMC) mission is to provide education to students in a variety of disciplines. ARMC has a number of agreements with universities and colleges, junior colleges, and technical and trade schools to provide on-site clinical training for students. This clinical training is necessary for students to obtain their degrees, licenses, and/or certifications.
The Agreement with Walden will enable approximately 15 nursing students to obtain in-person clinical training at ARMC. The volume and patient mix at ARMC will provide a comprehensive educational opportunity to the students from Walden. The clinical training will ensure its nursing students receive specialty clinical experience, and gain vital skills needed in developing a competent workforce. The Agreement provides for the safety, health, and social service needs of County residents by ensuring the delivery of specialized medical care to ARMC patients, as well as increasing the future pool of healthcare specialists.
ARMC recommends approval of this new Agreement with Walden to provide the safety, health and social service needs of County residents by allowing students enrolled in Walden’s nursing programs to obtain clinical training and research at ARMC. The program is online and used by our current staff to advance their training and education. Additionally, the program provides a clinical site for nursing students to train and can provide a pool of candidates to hire into the County workforce.
