BACKGROUND INFORMATION
As a federally recognized repository, the Anthropology Division of the SBCM will provide curation services for Applied Earthworks, Inc. (Applied Earthworks), in regards to their archaeological collection from the Riverside County Transportation Commission, State Route 79 Project. The Museum already holds archaeological material from Phase 1 of this project. As a federal repository designated by the National Park Service under Title 36-CFR Part 79 Curation of Federally-Owned and Administered Archeological Collections, the Museum accepts material for repository if it is within contiguous areas or part of an ongoing project in order to keep the material together in the same collection at the same repository institution.
Six boxes of archaeological materials will be accepted and curated into the collections, all labeled with appropriate field numbers. Locality data will be provided to the SBCM and will include hard copy maps as well as locality sheets with all coordinate data recorded. Electronic files, photographs, field notes, the final report of findings and any other ancillary data germane to this collection will also be included with the collection.
The scope of work includes acceptance and curation of the material, conducted by the Anthropology division under the direction of the Anthropology Curator. No additional staff are needed to complete this project. The delivery date of the material is subject to cataloging preparation by Applied Earthworks, under the SBCM’s curation identification number of SBCM-6281. The SBCM has given a term of one year, starting on July 26, 2022, to complete this work and deliver to the Museum.
