BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On March 1, 2022 (Item No. 34), in accordance with Government Code section 8630(a), the Board of Supervisors (Board) proclaimed the existence of a local emergency to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system. The impact of the worldwide Novel Coronavirus pandemic resulted in the need for the County to implement EMS protective measures.
As a result of the pandemic, the County continues to experience paramedic staffing shortages and disruption in supply chains, including ambulance manufacturing delays. To continue to ensure public safety, it is imperative that First Responder agencies and ambulance transport providers maximize the number of available resources to maintain the ability to meet the anticipated emergency transportation needs of the County. Continuation of the local emergency supports the ability of these agencies to obtain necessary additional resources, such as staffing resources, and allows the Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency to maintain emergency directives in place to support the EMS system, including the potential leveraging of alternate transport vehicles as needed.
Pursuant to Government Code section 8630(c), the Board of Supervisors (Board) shall review the need for continuing the local emergency at least once every 60 days until the Board terminates the local emergency. Board approval of this recommendation would continue the local emergency for an additional period in accordance with Government Code section 8630(c).
The Board last took action to continue this local emergency on June 14, 2022 (Item No. 25).
PROCUREMENT
