BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The dedicated men and women who have selflessly served in the Armed Forces have been vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life enjoyed by citizens across the United States and specifically San Bernardino County (County). Operation Green Light for Veterans is an opportunity to shine a green light aimed to let veterans know they are seen, appreciated, and supported.

Veterans continue to serve communities in the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, religious groups, through civil service, including by functioning as County Veterans Services Officers, to help fellow former service members access federal health, disability, and compensation benefits each year.

Adoption of this Resolution will honor individuals who have made countless sacrifices for freedom through the designation of Operation Green Light for Veterans from November 4, 2024, through Veterans Day - November 11, 2024, and the week leading up to Veterans Day each year thereafter, declaring a time to salute and honor the service and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform transitioning from active service.

Further, in observance of Operation Green Light for Veterans, county residents are encouraged in patriotic tradition to recognize the importance of honoring all those who made immeasurable sacrifices to preserve freedom by displaying green lights in a window of their place of business or residence from November 4, 2024, through November 11, 2024, and the week leading up to Veterans Day each year thereafter.
