RECOMMENDATION(S)
Recommendation
Acting as the governing body of the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, approve a Side Letter Agreement between San Bernardino County Fire Protection District and San Bernardino County Professional Firefighters, International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 935, which includes the establishment of a 40-hour workweek and the necessary clarifications to the Memorandum of Understanding.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
The proposed Side Letter Agreement (Agreement) will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). There are no anticipated additional costs associated with the Agreement. The Agreement clarifies current practice pertaining to administrative and operational practices.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
San Bernardino County engaged in the meet and confer process with San Bernardino County Professional Firefighters, International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 935 which resulted in the proposed Agreement. The Agreement establishes a 40-hour workweek for the Fire Suppression staff (i.e., Firefighter EMT, Firefighter Paramedic Trainee, Firefighter Paramedic, Engineer, Captain) that are on a temporary assignment (e.g., Training Tower Cadre). As a result of establishing a 40-hour workweek, the following articles were also modified to ensure continuity of benefits: Standard Work Week, Overtime, Specialty Pay Differentials, Leave Provisions, and Modified Benefit Option.
