BACKGROUND INFORMATION
SBCFPD uses Compressed Air Machines to replenish Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBAs) utilized by firefighters. The Compressed Air Machines are critical to re-service firefighters’ SCBAs with a safe supply of quality air after an incident. The Compressed Air Machines are strategically placed at designated fire stations and provide service to several fire stations within each regional service zone. The Compressed Air Machine located at fire station 224 (2641 N E Street, San Bernardino) can no longer be repaired and needs to be replaced. Since this machine can no longer be used, SBCFPD firefighters must travel further to another designated fire station to replenish SCBAs.
Approval of the recommended actions will enable SBCFPD to proceed with the purchase of a Compressed Air Machine to replace the existing one at fire station 224. This purchase is crucial for ensuring that SBCFPD firefighters will have SCBAs to enable them to safely respond to all fire, rescue, and EMS needs.
PROCUREMENT
Purchase of the Compressed Air Machine is part of a competitively bid contract through the County’s participation in an Intergovernmental Cooperative Purchasing Agreement with Bauer Compressors, Inc. (Contract No. M-5716497).
