BACKGROUND INFORMATION

A key component of Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s (ARMC) mission is to provide education to students in a variety of disciplines. ARMC has a number of agreements with universities and colleges, junior colleges, and technical and trade schools to provide on-site clinical training for students. This clinical training is necessary for students to obtain their degrees, licenses, and/or certifications.

The Agreement with Victor Valley will enable its School of STEM and Health Sciences students to obtain in-person clinical training at ARMC. The volume and patient mix at ARMC will provide a comprehensive educational opportunity to the students from Victor Valley. The clinical training will ensure students receive specialty clinical experience, and gain vital skills needed in developing a competent workforce. The Agreement provides for the safety, health, and social service needs of County residents by ensuring the delivery of specialized medical care to ARMC patients, as well as increasing the future pool of healthcare specialists.

On September 10, 2019 (Item No. 14), the Board of Supervisors approved Affiliation Agreement No. 19-618 with Victor Valley for its Health Sciences students to obtain clinical training at ARMC for the period of September 10, 2019 through September 9, 2024.

ARMC recommends approval of this new Agreement with Victor Valley to provide the safety, health and social service needs of County residents by allowing students enrolled in Victor Valley’s programs to obtain clinical training at ARMC. Providing a clinical site to these students for training will provide a pool of candidates to hire into the County workforce.
