FINANCIAL IMPACT

Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The San Bernardino County Board of Education’s (Board of Education) compensation is funded through the San Bernardino County Superintendent of School’s Service Fund.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

On December 15, 2025, the Board of Education adopted a resolution adjusting the monthly compensation for its members from $573.32 to $2,000 per month.  Recent legislative changes under Assembly Bill 1390, which amended Education Code Section 1090, allow for this salary increase. Pursuant to Education Code Section 1090, subsection (c), Board of Education members’ compensation is determined by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors (Board of Supervisors) since it is fiscally dependent on the County.  However, the law continues to authorize the Board of Education to approve annual increases of up to 5% beyond these limits. These annual increases are not subject to review or approval by the Board of Supervisors.

Approval of the salary increase would authorize the Board of Education to increase its compensation beginning in the month following approval. The Board of Supervisors is required to approve this compensation in order for the Board of Education resolution to become effective.

PROCUREMENT
