Body
COUNTY AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Provide for the Safety, Health and Social Service Needs of County Residents.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost) as this amendment and the underlying Affiliation Agreement with Concordia University Irvine (Concordia) are non-financial in nature.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The recommended amendment will add Concordia Master of Public Health and Master of Healthcare Administration students to the Affiliation Agreement to obtain experiential training at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC). This training is in addition to the clinical training currently being provided to Concordia’s nursing students. As a teaching hospital, ARMC has a number of agreements with educational institutions to provide onsite training for their students. The clinical training is necessary for students to obtain degrees, licenses, and/or certifications and will provide for the safety, health and social service needs of County residents by ensuring students become highly skilled healthcare providers as well as increasing the healthcare professional workforce for patient care.
The volume and diversity of ARMC patients provides a comprehensive educational opportunity to students from Concordia, which is a fully accredited educational institution. Concordia and ARMC will mutually determine the number of students that will receive training and the scope of that training. The Affiliation Agreement ensures the students receive specialty onsite training and experience from ARMC and gain vital skills needed in developing a competent workforce. As a teaching hospital, ARMC expects to attract students to the county area, increasing the potential pool of future healthcare providers and administrators.
On May 23, 2023 (Item No. 15), the Board of Supervisors approved non-financial Affiliation Agreement No. 23-437 with Concordia for clinical training of nursing students at ARMC for the five-year period of May 23, 2023 through May 22, 2028.
ARMC recommends approval of this amendment to provide training and experience to Concordia’s Master of Public Health and Master of Healthcare Administration students which will result in the students gaining vital skills needed to develop a competent workforce.
