RECOMMENDATION(S)
Recommendation
1. Approve the plans and specifications for the Phelan Road Intersection Improvements Project in the Phelan area as signed and sealed by a registered civil engineer.
2. Authorize the Director of the Department of Public Works to advertise the Phelan Road Intersection Improvements Project in the Phelan area for formal bids.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). There is minimal impact to the Department of Public Works (Department) for the approval of the Phelan Road Intersection Improvement Project in the Phelan area (Project) plans and specifications and authorization to advertise for formal bids. The Project will be funded with Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant funds and a local match with Senate Bill 1 (SB1) Road Maintenance Rehabilitation Account (RMRA) revenue. Sufficient appropriation and revenue are included in the Department's 2021-22 Road Operations budget (6650002000 13H14995) and will be included in future recommended budgets.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Project consists of widening four intersections on Phelan Road to accommodate left-turn and right-turn lanes to the intersecting streets at Sonora Road, Tumbleweed Road, Sunny Vista Road, and Arrowhead Road.
