Recommendation
Acting as the governing body of the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, approve Amendment No. 1 to non-financial Master Student Internship Agreement No. 21-631 with Victor Valley Community College District, associated with its Department of Emergency Medical Services Program, to continue providing student internship and learning opportunities and extend the term of the agreement by an additional three years, for a total contract term of August 24, 2021, through June 30, 2029.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of Amendment No. 1 (Amendment) will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost) as the Amendment to Master Student Internship Agreement No. 21-631 (Agreement) with Victor Valley Community College District, associated with its Department of Emergency Medical Services Program (VVCCD) is a non-financial Agreement.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCFPD) operates an internship program through agreements with schools and institutions whose students seek professional work experience to satisfy academic training requirements.
On August 24, 2021 (Item No. 52), the SBCFPD Board of Directors approved the Agreement with VVCCD for the period of August 24, 2021, through June 30, 2026. The Agreement allows VVCCD students to participate in internship and learning opportunities with SBCFPD while gaining hands-on experience in their field of study. The agreement also benefits SBCFPD by supporting its service capabilities and introducing students to potential public safety career opportunities.
Approval of the Amendment will extend the Agreement by an additional three years, for a total contract period of August 24, 2021, through June 30, 2029. This extension will allow VVCCD students to continue participating in valuable learning opportunities with SBCFPD without interruption. The Amendment also supports SBCFPD workforce development initiatives and provides a continued pathway for students to gain field experience and pursue future public safety careers within the County.
The Agreement may be terminated by either party without cause after 30 days’ advance written notice. All other terms of the Agreement remain unchanged.
