Recommendation
Approve Amendment No. 1 to Reimbursement Agreement No. 21-862 with MultiPlan, Inc., on behalf of itself and its subsidiaries to continue accessing out-of-network reimbursement rates for healthcare services, extending the agreement for one year, for a total agreement period of November 16, 2021 through September 30, 2027.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). This agreement provides Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) with reimbursement for services provided to patients with certain out-of-network health plans. Adequate appropriation and revenue have been included in the ARMC 2026-27 budget and will be included in the 2027-28 recommended budget.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On November 16, 2021 (Item No. 13), the Board of Supervisors approved Reimbursement Agreement No. 21-862 with MultiPlan, Inc., on behalf of itself and its subsidiaries (“MPI”) to establish out-of-network reimbursement rates for healthcare services for the period of November 16, 2021 through September 30, 2026.
The agreement provides predetermined rates for healthcare services provided to patients with certain out-of-network health plans. MPI represents a group of health care payers, allowing eligible claims to be priced at agreed-upon rates rather than requiring ARMC to review and negotiate payment on an individual claim basis. This process facilitates timely reimbursement and provides greater efficiency in resolving out-of-network claims.
Amendment No. 1 extends the term of the agreement for one year, through September 30, 2027, allowing ARMC to continue receiving reimbursement under the existing terms. ARMC and MPI are currently negotiating a new agreement.
ARMC recommends approval of Amendment No. 1 to allow ARMC to continue to receive reimbursement for services provided to patients with certain out-of-network health plans.
