Approval of this item will not result in the use of additional Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost) as the agreement is non-financial in nature.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
National Historic Trails are long-distance routes that follow and commemorate historic paths of travel that changed the history and character of the United States. Acceptance of the National Parks Service National Historic Trails non-binding agreement, certifying the Agua Mansa Cemetery as a significant site of interest on the Old Spanish Trail will create a partnership between the County and the National Parks Service. This partnership will stimulate heritage tourism through inclusion in National Historic Trails publications and marketing materials to promote the importance of heritage preservation. The agreement may be canceled by either party at any time by providing written notice.
The project goal is to increase public engagement and education in the regional history and enjoyment of the Agua Mansa Cemetery, one of the oldest marked cemeteries in California and a California Historic Landmark. This certification is in conjunction with a current Capital Improvement Projec...
