RECOMMENDATION(S)
Recommendation
Approve a non-financial Memorandum of Understanding with the California Department of Public Health, including non-standard terms, for one-year assignments of the California Epidemiologic Investigation Service Fellowship Program, for the period of July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2029.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is non-financial in nature and will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has a separate agreement with the Regents of the University of California, Davis (UCD) through which fellows from the California Epidemiologic Investigation Service (Cal-EIS) Fellowship Program (Fellowship) are insured and compensated.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Established in 1989, in response to the need to employ qualified epidemiologists in California's health departments, the Cal-EIS Fellowship allows epidemiologists who have recently graduated from a Master's degree program to gain hands-on experience working with an epidemiologist preceptor in local health departments. Participating fellows receive administrative support and compensation through a separate interagency agreement between CDPH and UCD.
