Recommendation
Approve the purchase and distribution of prepaid bus passes, in an amount not to exceed $4,889, to provide support to eligible individuals released from the County's detention facilities, for the period of August 20, 2024 through June 30, 2025.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The total amount of the prepaid bus passes will not exceed $4,889 and will be funded by the Sheriff/Coroner/Public Administrator's (Department) Inmate Welfare Trust Fund (IWF) (4420005167). Sufficient appropriation and revenue are included in the Department's 2024-25 budget.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Department anticipates distributing $4,889, in prepaid negotiables for 2024-25. Prepaid bus passes will be purchased from local mass-transit agencies. Bus passes purchased by the IWF will be provided to individuals recently released from County detention facilities who have limited access to transportation resources. Providing these individuals with a method of accessing transportation allows them to easily return home or attend post-release supportive appointments. The Department acquired $9,999 worth of bus passes in 2023-24: $4,999 paid by IWF and $5,000 with Senate Bill 170 funds, as approved by the Board of Supervisors (Board) on October 10, 2023 (Item No. 70).
