RECOMMENDATION(S)
Recommendation
Approve Amendment No. 1 to Contract No. 23-1119 with NaphCare, Inc., for the provision of correctional facility dialysis services, increasing the original amount by $1,153,207, from $1,115,985 to a new not to exceed amount of $2,269,192, and extending the term by two years, for a new contract term of October 3, 2023 through September 30, 2028.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of additional Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The proposed increased amount of $1,153,207, from the current Contract No. 23-1119 (Contract) amount of $1,115,985 to a new not to exceed amount of $2,269,192 is funded within the Sheriff/Coroner/Public Administrator's (Department) 2025-26 budget allocation and will be included in future recommended budgets.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Department's Detentions and Correctional Bureau, Health Services Division, is responsible for the health maintenance of all inmates and has an ongoing requirement to provide dialysis services, as medically needed, to inmates housed within San Bernardino County's correctional facilities. Since 1998, the Department has contracted with outside dialysis providers to provide on-site treatment, which improves public safety and is more efficient and cost-effective than transporting inmates to a clinic for treatment.
