BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Title 15, California Code of Regulations, Article 11 identifies the responsibility of the Department to provide medical, mental health, and dental care for correctional patients, including medically required eyeglasses (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 15, §§ 1200 and 1206, subd. (d)). Since 2019, the Department has utilized the services of American Correctional Solutions, Inc. ACS provides eight-hour optometry clinics at Central Detention Center, Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center, High Desert Detention Center, and West Valley Detention Center, including all necessary equipment, and ACS issues prescription eyeglasses within a reasonable timeframe.
On July 14, 2022, the Purchasing Department approved Purchase Order (PO) No. 4100255640 in the amount of $200,000 for the provision of optometry services for inmates housed within the Department’s Type II Detention Facilities, per County Policy No. 11-04.

Approval of Amendment No. 1 will allow the Department to exercise the option to extend the Contract with ACS for two additional years, increase the Contract amount by $1,000,000, and continue to meet the visual health needs of inmates within the County’s correctional facilities.
