RECOMMENDATION(S)
Recommendation
Approve Contract with American Correctional Solutions, Inc., for the provision of mobile optometry services in correctional facilities, in the amount of $500,000 per year, for an aggregate amount not to exceed $1,500,000 for the period of August 15, 2023 through June 30, 2026, with the option to extend the term for one additional two-year period, or two additional one-year periods.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of additional Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The total cost of the three-year contract will be $1,500,000, $500,000 for each fiscal year. The cost of $500,000 for 2023-24 for correctional facility optometry services will be funded within the Sheriff/Coroner/Public Administrator's (Department) 2023-24 budget allocation (4420001000) and will be included in future recommended budgets.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Title 15, California Code of Regulations, Article 11 identifies the responsibility of the Department to provide medical, mental health and dental care for correctional patients, including medically required eyeglasses [?1200 and 1206(d)]. Since 2019, the Department has utilized the services of American Correctional Solutions, Inc. (ACS) to provide mobile optometry services, including eye exams, diagnostic testing, and lens fitting, for inmates housed within the County's correctional facilities.
