BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Approval of this item ensures a balanced budget for OES. In budget 2024-25, OES experienced extraordinary costs associated with countywide emergency responses. During the last critical activations, the EOC incurred costs for supplies and educational items for community outreach, printing services for outreach events, taxes and registration fees for mobile showers/restroom trailers, and various unforeseen operating costs for the EOC and the warehouse.

Additionally, OES seeks to fund a significant enhancement to its technological capabilities. This comprehensive solution will facilitate efficient and targeted communication with employees, partnering agencies, and the public before, during, and after incidents, providing improved situational awareness.

Approval of these Recommendations will authorize the Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector to post the appropriation and budget adjustments, allowing OES to utilize existing funds for the purchase of necessary weather radio equipment and emergency supplies,  and services that support operations for essential emergency management and disaster planning services throughout the County.
