RECOMMENDATION(S)
Recommendation
Approve Amendment No. 1 to Contract No. 23-666 with First Student, Inc. for transportation services for the Head Start and State Preschool Programs, updating the language to include instructions for storage and use of rescue and other medications on the buses, with no change to the contract amount of $1,242,265 or contract period of July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2026.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
This item does not impact Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The contract amount of $1,242,265 is 90% ($1,118,039) federally funded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families and 10% ($124,226) funded by the California Department of Education. Adequate appropriation and revenue have been included in the Preschool Services Department's (PSD) 2024-25 Recommended Budget and will be included in future recommended budgets.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
PSD operates the Head Start, Early Head Start, Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership, General Child Care and Development, and State Preschool programs. These programs provide education, health, nutrition, cognitive, social/emotional, physical growth and development, and parent involvement services for children ages 0 to 5 with the goal of increasing family engagement and the school readiness of young children in economically disadvantaged families.
