FINANCIAL IMPACT
Since there is no financial impact to the County from this ordinance, approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost).

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The proposed ordinance was introduced on September 24, 2019 (Item No. 59). The recommendation before the Board of Supervisors today is to adopt the ordinance on the Consent Calendar.

The subject ordinance amends Section 23.0801 of the County Code to add an exception to the replacement requirement for certain wood shake shingle roofs within areas in the mountain communities that are particularly prone to wildland brush fires (Fire Safety Overlay area). More specifically, the ordinance provides that roof coverings installed prior to January 1, 2009, with fire retardant treated wood or other organic material with a Class "A" rated assembly under a permit from the County's Building and Safety Division and supporting documentation showing date of installation, may be accepted subject to inspection and approval by the Fire Chief or designee.
