Body
COUNTY AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Provide for the Safety, Health and Social Service Needs of County Residents.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this recommendation will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost) as the increased cost of $44,640 is funded by State Medi-Cal, Federal Medicare, private insurances, and other departmental revenue. Funding sources may change in the future pending any legislative activity related to the repeal and/or replacement of the Affordable Care Act. Adequate appropriation and revenue have been included in the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) 2019-20 budget and will be included in future recommended budgets.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Approval of the recommendation will provide for the safety, health and social service needs of County residents through the continued use of the Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) SurePath Processor to process pap smears and non-gynecological specimens for timely analysis and result reporting. Through the SurePath Processor, including instrument service, supplies and reagents, ARMC maintains patient specimen processing continuity in the Pathology Department. The SurePath Processor prepares slides from patient specimens for examination by a licensed Cytotechnologist or Pathologist and results are released to clinicians for patient evaluation and treatment.
ARMC recommends approval of this amendment to ensure continued use of the SurePath Processor, which has streamlined operations in the ARMC Pathology Laboratory by providing timely analysis and test results.
PROCUREMENT
Purchasing has approved the extension of this competitive procurement based on an RFP that was awarded to BD by the Board of Supervisors (Board) on April 7, 2015 (Item 10).
On April 17, 2018 (Item 10), the Board approved an agreement with BD in the amount of $92,148 for the rental, service, reagents and supplies of the SurePath Processor for the period of April 17, 2018 through April 16, 2020. This one year extension will allow time for a new RFP to be released and awarded.
