FINANCIAL IMPACT

Approval of this item will not result in the use of additional Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). This aircraft is no longer needed by the Sheriff/Coroner/Public Administrator (Department), and donating it to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department will fulfill the Department’s agreement to return it to the State, or its designee.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

On May 8, 2007 (Item No. 044), the Board of Supervisors approved the acceptance of the Beechcraft King Air A200 fixed-wing aircraft from the State of California, Office of Emergency Services (CalOES).  The Department was selected as the recipient of the aircraft as it was surplus to the needs of the State.  The aircraft was previously flown by the California Highway Patrol and was no longer of use to that agency.

As a condition of accepting the aircraft, the County agreed to return it to CalOES when no longer of use to the County.  CalOES has authorized the Department to transfer the aircraft directly to Contra Costa County.  The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors approved the acceptance of the Beechcraft King Air A200 fixed-wing aircraft as a no-cost inter-agency transfer on April 28, 2020.
