BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The members of the Board of Supervisors (Board) represent the County on more than 40 county and multijurisdictional boards, commissions, committees, task forces, advisory groups, steering committees and public boards, including the Southern California Water Coalition (Coalition, formerly Southern California Water Committee).  Formed in 1984, the Coalition is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, made up of leaders from a variety of businesses, cities, agricultural groups, labor unions, environmental organizations, water agencies, as well as the general public.  They are dedicated to informing and educating Southern Californians about our water needs and our state’s water resources.

The Coalition membership spans across Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura, Kern and Imperial counties and includes members from each county to represent the interests of county government.  The membership on the Coalition is a discretionary appointment where the Board, on recommendation of the Chairman, has discretion to appoint any board member to represent the County.  The appointment of Second District Supervisor Janice Rutherford will replace Fourth District Supervisor Curt Hagman on the Coalition for a term of three years, or until another successor has been selected.
