FINANCIAL IMPACT

This item does not impact Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The donation of items for families within the Department of Public Health (DPH) - Black Infant Health (BIH) Program is valued up to $10,000 and funded 100% by Santa Claus, Inc.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The BIH Program is designed to meet the health related needs of pregnant and postpartum African-American women through a State standardized model that features group intervention to encourage empowerment and social support in the context of a life course perspective and through social service case management to link clients with the needed community and health related services.

Santa Claus, Inc. (SCI) is a community-based organization dedicated to providing services for families in need through its Holiday Distribution Program and its Youth Enrichment Services year round programs. Christmas items are provided for underprivileged children in SCI’s regular service areas of Colton, Highland, Rialto, Redlands, and San Bernardino. The Youth Enrichment Services program provides essential year round services throughout the regular service areas and the extended service areas of Ontario, Montclair, Fontana, Yucaipa, and the high desert. Through its Youth Enrichment Services program, SCI will donate items to DPH’s BIH program for family sustainability such as diapers, car seats, safety kits, toys, and baby bouncers.

This item will allow DPH to accept donation of items and approves the MOU, as required by SCI, in order to receive donated items from the agency throughout the year that will be provided to families within the BIH Program. The type of items, frequency of receipt, and date(s) received by DPH may vary, depending on SCI’s Youth Enrichment Services program resources.
