BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This item seeks approval for the purchase of a new backup booster pump to provide reliable well water service for the Department of Public Works - Special Districts (DPWSD) and SBCFPD.    The existing 10 horsepower backup pump within CSA 29 is failing and does not provide adequate water pressure and volume to Pioneer Park, SBCFPD Fire Station 8, and the Cal Fire Lucerne Valley Station.  A new 20 horsepower backup pump is needed to match the 20 horsepower primary pump.  In the event of a primary pump failure, the backup pump will maintain pressure and volume to the entire water system, which is especially vital during the fire season and times of high demand.

Per County Policy No. 11-04, the purchase of unbudgeted fixed assets of $10,000 per unit value or more requires approval from the Board of Supervisors.

PROCUREMENT

The booster pump will be purchased from and installed by Well Tec Services (WTS).  WTS is an approved on-call contractor for DPWSD based on the results of a previous procurement process.
