BACKGROUND INFORMATION

On September 11, 2020, the Chief Executive Officer, while serving as the Director of Emergency Services, proclaimed the existence of a local emergency for the El Dorado Fire in San Bernardino County.  This action, which was ratified by the Board of Supervisors (Board) on September 15, 2020 (Item No. 33), was in response to a vegetation fire that started on September 5, 2020 at El Dorado Ranch Park in Yucaipa.  The wind driven fire swept across portions of Yucaipa, Oak Glen, Forest Falls, Mountain Home Village, Angelus Oaks, Heart Bar, Barton Flats, and surrounding areas.  The fire caused extensive damage and resulted in power outages, interrupted cellular service, hazardous air quality conditions, and road closures.  The impacts from this fire continue to pose a threat to the affected communities.

Pursuant to Government Code section 8630(c), the Board shall review the need for continuing the local emergency at least once every 60 days until the Board terminates the local emergency.  Board approval of this recommendation would continue the local emergency for an additional period in accordance with Government Code section 8630(c).  The Board last took action to continue this emergency on December 15, 2020 (Item No. 33).
