FINANCIAL IMPACT
This item does not impact Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) funds in the amount of $330,042 are 100% Federal revenue allocated from the California Department of Aging (CDA). Adequate appropriation and revenue will be included in the Department of Aging and Adult Services’ (DAAS) 2021-22 recommended budget.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Federal Older Americans Act (OAA) promotes the welfare and dignity of older adults by providing valuable services in order to enable older adults to be independent, remain in their communities, and assist them to be engaged citizens. In 1976, the State of California designated the County of San Bernardino as an Area Agency on Aging. As a result of this designation, DAAS receives funding to administer SCSEP services through a revenue agreement with CDA.
SCSEP targets older adults seeking employment. The goal of the program is to update or enhance participants’ job skills, through subsidized employment and training, in order to help the participant’s secure unsubsidized employment. The recommended revenue agreement with CDA will allow DAAS to provide SCSEP services to approximately 25 clients in 2021-22.
