Body
COUNTY AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Operate in a Fiscally-Responsible and Business-Like Manner.
Provide for the Safety, Health and Social Service Needs of County Residents.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The additional cost of $6,000 is funded by State Medi-Cal, Federal Medicare, private insurances, and other departmental revenue. Funding sources may change in the future pending any legislative activity related to the repeal and/or replacement of the Affordable Care Act. Adequate appropriation and revenue have been included in the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) 2021-22 budget and will be included in future recommended budgets.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Approval of this recommendation will provide for remote access to the server connected to the Pyxis Pharmaceutical Dispensing System of automated dispensing cabinets (Pyxis) from CareFusion Solutions, LLC (CareFusion). ARMC uses Pyxis in multiple areas within the hospital, Emergency Department, and Behavioral Health Units, and off-site Family Health Centers, dispensing more than 2 million doses per year. Furthermore, the hospital already has Securelink as a remote vendor platform, and it is used as the hospital’s primary vendor remote support method for all ARMC vendors. This amendment will enable CareFusion to use the Securelink platform for the Pyxis server as it is not CareFusion’s primary remote connectivity platform for providing support to customers. ARMC is standardizing all of the hospital’s remote support vendors to use Securelink.
On October 27, 2020 (Item No. 18), the Board approved a Master Agreement with CareFusion Solutions, LLC for the purchase of automated pharmaceutical dispensing equipment, disposables, software licenses, accessories, and other products, and related services, in the amount of $3,190,681.55, for the five-year period beginning on the first day of the month following the date of the County’s acceptance of the system.
On February 9, 2021 (Item No. 23), the Board ratified Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement with CareFusion Solutions, LLC that was initially signed by the County Chief Executive Officer on January 12, 2021, to increase the total contract amount by $4,548 from $3,190,681.55 to $3,195,229.55 for the emergency short-term lease for additional automated dispensing cabinets to use for treatment of novel coronavirus patients.
ARMC recommends approval of this amendment as it will enhance the use of the Pyxis system by allowing the hospital nursing and pharmacy staff to access and stock medications in an efficient, timely manner.
PROCUREMENT
Purchasing has approved this recommendation based on a competitive procurement from Request for Proposal (RFP) No. ARMC120-ARMC-3606 that resulted in a contract award to Becton Dickinson and Company (for its subsidiary CareFusion Solutions, LLC).
