RECOMMENDATION(S)
Recommendation
Approve a contract with MEDEX Managed Care, Inc. to provide Workers' Compensation Utilization Review Services to San Bernardino County and other public entities' workers' compensation claims, per the Fee Schedule (Attachment A), with an estimated total cost of $3,650,000, for the period of November 17, 2021 through November 16, 2026.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of additional Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The estimated annual cost of $730,000 for workers' compensation review services will be funded through the Department of Risk Management's (DRM) workers' compensation insurance funds (4082 and 4104) in accordance with the contracted fee schedule. Sufficient appropriation is available in the 2021-22 DRM budget and will be included in future recommended budgets.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
San Bernardino County's workers' compensation program has been self-insured and self-administered since 1972. Since then, DRM has utilized various cost containment programs, and in more recent years the program has added a medical utilization review (UR) process.
