FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of additional Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). County resources to be used in support of the San Bernardino County Probation Department Peer Support Program (Program) Golf Tournament are estimated at $5,000 and are funded within the Probation Department’s (Department) existing budget allocation.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Program is a non-profit 501(c)(3), with the sole purpose of assisting staff, volunteers and their families in times of need by providing support and financial assistance to employees and volunteers with post-traumatic injuries following critical incidents, including but not limited to, officer-involved shooting, severe injury, and death of an employee or an employee’s family member. The Program’s first annual golf tournament fundraiser event includes a participation fee of $150 per person as part of the fundraising efforts.
The coordination and implementation of the Program is a significant undertaking. While the vast majority of work is done by volunteers, the minimal use of County resources to coordinate activities prior to the event is necessary to ensure its success.
Approval of the recommendations allows compliance with County Standard Practice 06-02SP, which requires County departments to request authorization of a fundraising program from the Board of Supervisors (Board) and to submit a fundraising program report at the request of the Board or County Administrative Office.
In accordance with County Standard Practice 11-07SP, the Program will obtain event insurance and provide the County with a certificate of insurance for this event.
