RECOMMENDATION(S)
Recommendation
Accept grant award No. TA6-21-0019 from the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, in the amount of $40,000, for the period of November 22, 2021 through October 31, 2023, for hosting amnesty events for the collection and recycling of waste tires.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
Acceptance of this grant award will not result in the use of additional Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost) and does not require matching funds. Sufficient appropriation and revenue to operate waste tire recycling activities have been included in the Land Use Services Department (LUS) Code Enforcement 2021-22 budget and will be included in the future recommended budgets, as needed.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Since 2015-16 LUS has been awarded nine grants by California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) for three different activities related to ensuring the proper disposal of waste tires. The Waste Tire Amnesty grant funds are specifically designated for individual citizens who need to dispose of tires. The grant will pay for disposal fees, personnel to staff the amnesty events and to administer the grant. Additional activities funded by other CalRecycle grants also improve compliance with state regulations and prevent illegal dumping through public education.
