RECOMMENDATION(S)
Recommendation
Approve Agreement with the California Highway Patrol (State Agreement No. 21R801000), in an amount not to exceed $614,880, for the County to reimburse costs associated with the California Highway Patrol's participation in the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force for the retroactive period of January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2026.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
This item will not result in the use of additional Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The cost for California Highway Patrol's (CHP) participation in the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force (SANCATT), in an amount not to exceed $614,880, is included in the Auto Theft Task Force Special Revenue Fund's 2022-23 budget (4430002385), which is financed by a portion of Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) fees paid for vehicles registered in San Bernardino County (Vehicle Code Section 9250.14).

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
On May 2, 1995 (Item No. 33), the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors (Board) adopted Resolution No. 95-104 pursuant to Vehicle Code Section 9250.14 specifically to fund a multi-jurisdictional vehicle theft task force to investigate and prosecute vehicle theft crimes.
