Recommendation
Approve contract with the City of Twentynine Palms to provide Animal Shelter Services in the unincorporated areas of the low desert, in an amount not to exceed $25,000, for the contract period of July 13, 2021 through June 30, 2026.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
This item will not result in the use of additional Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost). The recommended contract amount will not exceed $25,000 and is funded by Discretionary General Funding, contract revenue and fees collected by Animal Care and Control. Adequate appropriation and revenue have been included in the Department of Public Health's (DPH) 2021-22 budget and will be included in future recommended budgets.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
DPH Animal Care and Control (ACC) provides animal shelter services to the unincorporated areas throughout San Bernardino County. ACC utilizes contract shelters in outlying unincorporated areas where the County does not own or operate a shelter. These contract facilities reduce travel time for field animal control officers and make it easier for residents to retrieve and adopt impounded animals. Since 1994, ACC has contracted with the City of Twentynine Palms to provide animal shelter services in the unincorporated areas of the low desert.
