COUNTY AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Provide for the Safety, Health and Social Service Needs of County Residents.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Approval of this item will not result in the use of Discretionary General Funding (Net County Cost) as this Affiliation Agreement with California Baptist University (CBU) is non-financial in nature.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Affiliation Agreement will provide onsite training to nursing students from CBU, who as a result, will assist in the delivery of care to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) patients. As a teaching hospital, ARMC has a number of agreements with educational institutions to provide on-site training for students. The onsite training is necessary for students to obtain their degrees, licenses, and/or certifications. In addition, providing clinical sites for student training has been shown to be an effective way to recruit potential employees.
The volume and diversity of ARMC patients provides a comprehensive educational opportunity to students from CBU, which is a fully accredited educational institution. CBU will contact ARMC prior to the beginning of each semester to determine the number of students able to participate in onsite training. The Affiliation Agreement ensures nursing students receive specialty onsite training and experience from ARMC and gain vital skills needed in developing a competent workforce. The Affiliation Agreement provides for the safety, health, and social service needs of County residents by ensuring the delivery of specialized medical care to ARMC patients, as well as increasing the future pool of healthcare specialist.
On March 1, 2016 (Item No. 15), the Board of Supervisors approved non-financial Affiliation Agreement No. 16-70 with CBU to provide nursing students with clinical experience at ARMC for the period of March 1, 2016, through February 28, 2019, with options to extend for one additional two-year period.
